Wellington’s Senior School teacher Faba Cherukara and her teaching assistant Miss Du believe that the best way to learn science is to do science. Both teachers have spent the last few weeks in the laboratory testing out some of the biggest and best experiments that they have attempted yet. They are thrilled to be returning to lead the programme and are sure our young scientists will love what they have got planned.
5-8 years - Young scientists are taught how to work safely, how to use pieces of real lab equipment, and learn basic vocabulary related to science and working in the lab.
8-11 years - Now that young scientists have these basic skills and can work safely, our focus switches to thinking scientifically, recording and interpreting results and learning science theory related to our discoveries.
Students will be taught in the international language of science, English, but instructions will also be translated into Chinese to make sure that nobody is left behind. Mr. Dentico and Miss Du are confident that this approach will enable to students to make progress in both their spoken English and their scientific skills and understanding.
Due to popular demand, this term our scientists will have to opportunity to purchase their own lab coat that they can take home. These will be personalised with their name and national flag on the upper sleeve. Students will then be challenged to learn science theory and win one of 16 badges that can be ironed onto their lab coats. Just tell us which badge you are interested in, and we will provide you with all the information you need to win!
